Welcome to Faith In Action North Lakeland
If high-quality, personalized service is what you seek, Faith In Action North Lakeland is your destination. Here, we provide the attentive, personal service you've come to expect and enjoy. Our caregiving services are second to none. As a national organization, Faith in Action North, with assistance from Polk County Elderly Services, was established in September 2003 by Mildred S. McMillon, our current executive director. We are dedicated to our mission: assisting the chronically ill, frail, elderly, and homebound in maintaining their independence through personal relationships. Our volunteers are committed to encouraging care recipients to sustain or enhance meaningful social interactions. By taking on tasks that care recipients can no longer manage, volunteers enable them to live safely in their own homes, thus avoiding premature institutionalization.
Senior satisfaction is our top priority

Faith in Action is committed to help older adults in maintaining and improving their quality of life. With the assistance of volunteers, clients can maximize their ability to meet their own needs and to continue to live independently. Services that are available to qualifying seniors include transportation, handyman services, errands, medical equipment closet, and information and referrals.

To be eligible for transportation services, individuals must be enrolled as a client in the program. Clients must be ambulatory independently or with the assistance of a cane or walker. PLEASE NOTE: We are able to provide transportation to individuals in wheelchairs who are not able to transfer to a car independently. Our volunteers are not able to transport wheelchairs in their vehicles.
Committed to helping our customers achieve their dreams
Our Vision
To be the best at providing services that enhance seniors' independence and quality of life. We will continue to be a leader in service for seniors in Polk County and advocate for coordinated senior services in the community.
Our Services
Faith In Action North Lakeland is all about helping senior citizens keep their independent lifestyle.
History
Faith in Action of North lakeland mirror other Faith in Action organizations developed by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation throughout the USA. The history/purpose of Faith in Action of North Lakeland, established in September 2003 by Mildred S. McMillion with the help of Polk County Elderly service is to help chronically ill and frail elderly neighbors retain their independence. By forming personal relationships, volunteers will encourage care recipients to maintain or increase meaningful social interactions, by performing chores the care recipients can no longer perform; volunteers will enable care recipients to live safely in their homes, preventing premature institutionalization. In addition Faith in Action is part of an established organization. We visit the home-bound, shut-ins; to see that their needs are met, distributing Boxes of food, clothing, and toiletries. We serve the people of Polk county without regard to religious affiliation, race, color or national origin. We especially take care of people with disabilities. The faith in action model enables us, in partnership, to develop relationships and provide more care to more people in need.

Ways to Get Involved
Transportation (Driving)
This is the main way to volunteer and is the most needed. Volunteers drive seniors to doctor's appointments, the grocery store, and even to beauty appointments, using their own vehicles. Scheduling is flexible with a Monday - Friday schedule, drivers are allowed to self-assign or receive a phone call or email when a senior needs a ride. All drivers establish their own criteria of time and geographical areas where they wish to drive. Children are more than welcome to ride along.
Care Calling or Home Visits
Many of our clients, don't have family in the area and enjoy a visit from time to time or love to chat on the phone. This type of volunteering help homebound seniors combat feelings of isolation and loneliness by providing a friendly ear. Volunteers are assigned a senior requesting this service. Visits and calls can take place on weekends, evenings, or even during the weekday when working family members are not available.
Handyman Work
Many times seniors need minor home repairs and tasks around the house, that would otherwise be dangerous for them to do. These jobs can include anything from outside maintenance and yard work to replacing light bulbs and AC filters.
Errands
Sometimes a senior just needs a few errands to get done, volunteers pick up prescriptions, groceries, and household items for clients.
Office Assistance
Sometimes, the Faith in Action staff need a little help around the office. Volunteers can answer the phones, take client's requests for services, help schedule and coordinate client drives, and other services requested.

At Faith In Action North Lakeland, we take care to provide our customers high quality services personalized for their unique needs. We are available to take your concerns. Our staff members are professional, courteous and efficient.
Local volunteer caregiving programs bring volunteers of different faiths together to care for their homebound neighbors who may be isolated and living with chronic health conditions or disabilities. These volunteers come from churches, synagogues, and other houses of worship, as well as from the community at large, and provide many forms of non-medical assistance, such as:

Transportation to medical and other appointments
Help with shopping, reading or bill-paying
  Minor home repairs
  Light housekeeping or meal preparation
  Friendly visiting and telephone support
  Respite care for family caregivers

The Faith in Action Program is a service that provides a volunteer based support service to our neighbors who are older citizens and people with disabilities. We help people stay active within the community and in their own homes. Our volunteers provide non-medical assistance to maintain independent lifestyles. You do not need to be a member of a faith-based congregation to get help from our volunteers.
